Engraving or Intaglio printing is a printing technique in which the image, manually engraved in a copper or steel plate, lies on top of the surface of the print as a raised layer of ink. This tactility is still one of the best security methods for banknotes and is applied all over the world, usually in the shape of a recognisable portrait. No other process delivers so much value in terms of security, aesthetics, recognition and functionality.

Since hand engraving as an industrial application has now been replaced by modern laser technology, new possibilities on securities arise. By following drawing/engraving trainings in portrait at De la Rue Giori (KBA) with Prof. Trento Cionini, at JURA and at master painter M. Welbergen, during her career, she has practical experience plus the knowledge on how to engrave and how to secure documents. Madlé is able to integrate traditional and new intaglio possibilities in her secured designs. When it comes to banknote or stamp items such as portraits, crests, seals and other tactile ornaments, Madlé Design creates artwork and digital illustrations for both traditional and modern printing techniques.
